Below is a quick explanation of why I do not haul between the months of
September and April.
September through October months are Flood season for most of my routes
through Canada.
November through April months are way too cold, snowy, and
dangerous for long haul transportation of live animals in a trailer.
I have personally been out in mid-April and have been through
temperatures ranging minus 20 degrees fahrenheit in the Yukon Territory.
Heavy snowfall and subzero temperatures are only a portion of the
problem
for this time of the year.
March through sometimes early May is Avalanche season for many parts of
the roads. I have also seen these covering the roads with no way
through during late April in British Columbia.
This is not to say that floods, mud slides, forest
fires, and other natural disasters do not occur during other
parts of the year, because they often do.
Mid-Summer 2011 there were road closures due to forest fires started by
lighting strikes, and in August of 2011, I was caught in
road closures due to
flooding.
Nature can not be predicted to it's fullest, so it is good to
know your horses will be onboard with an experienced, prepared
livestock transporter.
